Jason Kelce Explains His Exercise Routine for Remaining Strong After Football
A fan base eager to look like Jason Kelce was the last thing he ever anticipated during his 13 years of NFL football. However, in recent months, the former All-Pro Philadelphia Eagles center and Super Bowl LII champion has emerged as the newest celebrity to inspire lookalikes on Instagram and TikTok. Yes, Kelce is undoubtedly a celebrity.
“It’s been really weird,” he admits. “You know, throughout my career, I’ve been compared to other individuals. I used to get Zach Galifianakis a lot, even in college. I’m essentially compared to any bearded white man. It has been unusual in the past several years for all of these folks to suddenly be compared to me.
Two years into his retirement, Jason Kelce has reached unprecedented heights of popularity. Since putting up his cleats, the 37-year-old Kelce has been on Jimmy Kimmel as a guest and started a late-night program with ESPN. He even had an appearance on Wrestlemania, and his podcast, “New Heights,” alongside little brother (and Kansas City Chiefs standout) Travis, landed him a $100 million deal with Wondery. Perhaps most unexpectedly, despite losing around 15 pounds from his previous playing weight of 295 pounds, his hairy, dadbod body has become famous.
This latter aspect regarding Kelce was particularly evident in the run-up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. At that point, he partnered with Marriott Bonvoy and Courtyard by Marriott to deploy 25 of his most talented impersonators across the Big Easy, offering superfans a chance to spend a night in Courtyard’s Super Bowl Sleepover Suite in return for their ability to locate the genuine Jason Kelce.
For a former lineman who is, hmm, hitting new heights in his second life, the stunt is all part of an extremely hectic routine. As long as we didn’t inquire as to whether he intended to cheer for Travis or his former team, the Eagles, on game day, he was delighted to talk about all of this with MH. That wasn’t an issue because we were interested in learning about his still insane post-football workout regimen, the diet that has helped him lose weight, and his thoughts on all the lookalikes.
JASON KELCE: I believe that having a thick set of eyebrows is an extremely underappreciated skill. You must have bushy eyebrows. Being a Kelce may be identified by the thick eyebrows that both my brother and I have. Another issue is that your eyes must vanish when you grin. You must appear to be a dog of some kind that is unable to see clearly. Additionally, have some girth, you know.
JK: I’m still rather broad. My diet has completely collapsed during the playoffs, so I’m back up to about 280 pounds. In the upcoming months, I would really like to drop to 262, 250 here. After I finish in New Orleans, we’ll see what transpires. It won’t help with the cuisine, beignets, and gumbo.
JK: I was among the athletes compelled to play offensive line. I was best suited to play that position in the NFL due to my size and physical composition. Maintaining a hefty weight has always required a lot of effort on my part. Therefore, it was only natural for me to want to go down when I finished playing. Losing weight has always been something I’ve looked forward to.
